Hi, my name is Jaskirat!
I am currently a 4th year undergraduate at UC Berkeley with a double major in Economics and Integrative Biology. Over winter break, I completed the IEOR 192 bootcamp on Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship. As a result, I enrolled in IEOR 190G in order to complete the Certificate on Entrepreneurship & Technology (CET) at Cal.
Particularly, I keep up with the mobile patent wars between Samsung, Apple, Nokia, etc because its fascinating to see how companies compete to stay ahead, and hinder their competition from catching up. I'll admit, I'm a big iPhone fan. I've had an iPhone 4, 5, and now 6!
For the first assignment, here is my list of top 10 innovations that changed the world. Keep in mind, coming from a biology background, I added a few health related innovations that impacted life expectancy.
Top 10 Innovations
- Electricity/Light-bulb: without this, most other things would not be possible!
- Penicillin: first antibiotic that helped pave the way for fighting plague, TB, E.coli
- Vaccines: anti-viral for things such as Hepatitis, influenza, and polio
- Clean Water: Although not everyone has this yet, it allows billions to consume water and live healthier.
- Computer: Without this, would not be possible to write this blog!
- Internet: Allowed computers and mobile phones to communicate and share information globally within seconds.
- Mobile Phones: providing internet connectivity to billions of people, including those of low income countries who did not previously have any form of communication (ex. India)
- Automobile: allowing humans to travel greater distances efficiently, urbanization and suburbanization.
- Ships: Earliest form of trade between ancient civilizations, founding of New World, and mass transport
- Guns: Historically used for world conquest, but still used by both good and bad guys.
